Veran Patel (FCCA, BSc (Hons))

Veran joined TIAA in 2003 and had been promoted through the company. With decades of internal audit and governance experience, holding positions of Head of Audit, Board Member and Accountant, one of Veran’s key strengths is seeing the value of effective assurance from all perspectives.

Veran is well placed to understand the challenges facing organisational governance as he is involved with a range of Board level positions. This includes Co-opted Group Board member of Dimensions UK (which is a national charity) and Chair of the Ethics Committee of Takumi International which is a global social media marketing agency.

Veran has also been Chair of the Resources Committee and Trustee of the Peel Institute which has been serving the needs of marginalised communities in Clerkenwell since 1898. In June 2019, Veran has also been a founding Director of Healthwatch, City of London.

Veran has an excellent understanding of the requirements of Audit Committee, Governance Risk Committee and Board members, providing business assurance and strategic advice. This understanding is derived from a varied career including Head of Internal audit as well as Director of a national audit firm with responsibility for service strategy and business development.

Career Highlights

• Designing and implementing industry-leading ethical practices at Takumi, a global social media influencer agency
• Partnering with public finance accountancy body, CIPFA to develop risk assessment tools for a range of industry sectors
• Developing a framework for oversight of Board Effectiveness Reviews of Arm’s Length Bodies for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport
• Delivering a project to improve the systems supporting patient advocacy at Barts Health which is one of Europe’s largest healthcare providers
• Leading the development of a security risk management and investigation service across 40+ public sector bodies
