What is Recycle Week

Recycle Week is a national campaign led by WRAP and Recycle Now to inspire individuals and organisations to recycle more of the right things, more often. This year’s theme, “Rescue Me! Recycle”, reminds us that many everyday items, like foil, deodorant cans, and trigger spray bottles, are often mistakenly thrown away when they could be recycled.

How TIAA Ltd Manages Waste

At TIAA Ltd, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously. Here’s how we manage waste across our operations:

  • Digital-first approach: We minimise paper use by prioritising digital documentation and secure cloud storage.
  • Office recycling stations: All offices are equipped with clearly labelled bins for paper, plastics, food and general waste.
  • Confidential waste disposal: All paper waste is shredded securely and recycled.
  • Electronic waste (e-waste): Old IT equipment and mobile phones are responsibly recycled or repurposed through certified partners.
  • Furniture & Equipment: We try and repurpose as much as possible. We assess whether items can be reused externally and coordinate with local organisations that can benefit from our office assets. This approach diverts waste from landfill, and supports community initiatives and small enterprises in need of resources.
How You Can Help – At Work & At Home

At Work:

  • Use recycling bins correctly – check signage and avoid contamination.
  • Recycle toner cartridges, batteries, and electronics
  • Avoid printing unless absolutely necessary.
  • Bring reusable water bottles and coffee cups to work to reduce single-use waste.

At Home:

  • Check your local council’s recycling guidelines and rescue overlooked recyclables like yoghurt pots, foil, and empty aerosols – rules vary by area.
  • Check other recycling options through your local supermarket or via schemes such as Terracycle.
  • Compost food waste if possible.
  • Donate or recycle old clothes and household items.
  • Use apps like Too Good To Go or OLIO to reduce food waste.
