The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has officially launched two key initiatives aimed at improving the experience of victims in the criminal justice system: the Victim Service Standards and a new set of Special Measures video guides.

These tools are part of the CPS’s broader Victims Programme, designed to deliver a more consistent, compassionate, and clear service to victims across England and Wales.

The Victim Service Standards outline what victims can expect in their interactions with the CPS, including empathetic communication, transparent decision-making, and meaningful opportunities to provide feedback. These standards were developed with input from victims and stakeholder groups.

Complementing the standards, the Special Measures video guides were produced in partnership with key justice agencies to help victims better understand the support available when giving evidence in court. The four videos showcase real criminal justice staff and walk victims through the application process and support options.

Organisations are encouraged to share these resources widely to enhance awareness and access for victims of crime across communities.
