The Office for Students (OfS) has announced the outcome of its consultation on proposed changes to the way further education (FE) colleges in England are regulated. The consultation, launched in December 2025, sought feedback on measures designed to simplify regulatory requirements and reduce administrative burden on colleges while maintaining appropriate oversight of quality and student outcomes.

What Has Changed?

Following the consultation, the OfS has confirmed a series of changes to its approach to regulating further education colleges. The regulator states that these reforms are intended to streamline requirements, making compliance more proportionate and reducing unnecessary bureaucracy for FE providers.

The publication, released on 9 July 2026, sets out:
